MESSAGE OF THE PRESIDENT

TO MY DEAR THADDEANS

The formative years of the St. Jude College have been the challenge that made the college the institution with the dynamic Christian spirit that it is now -- strong in curricular offerings, competitive yet cooperative in spirit and progressively improving in faculty, student and administrative services.

The success that St. Jude College has so far attained might be attributed to the wholesome relationship that binds the administrative officials, the faculty, the students and employees.

The formative years of the St. Jude College have been the challenge that made the college the institution with the dynamic Christian spirit that it is now -- strong in curricular offerings, competitive yet cooperative in spirit and progressively improving in faculty, student and administrative services.

I firmly believe, as do other educators, that the students are the future potential nation builders. If the foundation of a building is strong, there is no doubt that such a building would be strong too. So must it be with an educational institution. Bring up a studentry that is healthy, dedicated, strong in character, disciplined, happy and contented... and you forge a nation of potentially great men and women. Schools, colleges, and universities need strong foundations to survive the onslaughts of time and progress physically and educationally but spiritually, morally and ethically.

As students of St. Jude College, you must learn to solve your problems with self-reliance, self-determination, and confidence. Try to perform your duties to yourselves. to your parents, to your college, and the community to the best that you can. As future leaders of this country, you are expected even now to manifest the characteristics generally found among leaders. Industry, tenacity of purpose, exemplary behavior in private as well as in public life is among the traits you must strive to possess.

Our country needs responsible citizens who can contribute to its development and progress. As students, make use of your time wisely and give yourselves the opportunities to prepare yourselves to help in the serious task of nation building. Learn to discipline your minds as well as your bodies. Organize your time, plan your activities and guard the use of your finances as no one else can do these things for you. And as you go through the adjustment process, expect to be deluged with countless difficulties and perhaps even disappointments. But don't let them phase your enthusiasm. Instead, look at these as challenges that can serve to invigorate effectively with more of them in the future.

Lastly, as long as you are a part of this institution, try to be loyal. "Do not condemn it; if you do, the first high wind that comes along will blow you away and probably you will never know why."

Welcome to St. Jude College. We shall do our share.

RAMON D. ATIENZA JR. M.D.
